Liver cancer has the fastest rate of increase among cancers in the United States. This is a result of the epidemic levels of hepatitis C and B infection. In patients with hepatitis C and advanced liver damage (cirrhosis) the risk of liver cancer increases dramatically. Patients with active hepattis B infection, regardless of liver damage also have an increased risk of liver cancer.
